CHAPTER 19

THE JOHN (unk) CARSON FAMILY of BLANCO COUNTY, TEXAS

SIXTH GENERATION (synchronized with the John C. Carson line)

Note: This line is being included because (2018) John (unk) CARSON  is the son of Thomas Gibson Carson Jr. and because two of his daughters married into the BOYETT family of Brazos County, Texas.  The Boyetts were a prominent family in Bryan, Texas, and intermarried with the John C. Carson family of Brazos County.

This chapter is supplemental to information in chapters 2 and 20.

2006    John (unk) CARSON was born on 15 March, 1786 in South Carolina. He was married to (2023) Sarah (Bates) CARSON on 10 June, 1910 in the Tombigbee area of Alabama, then Mississippi Territory. She was born about 1790 and was the daughter of (2316) Thomas Bates Sr.  The children of John and Sarah were:
        +2008    Ann CARSON
        2246       William  CARSON
        2247       James CARSON

2318       Elizabeth CARSON

Sarah and John separated, with Sarah taking the two young boys and the girls staying with John.  There is no trace of Sarah or the two boys, other than they were named in the will of Sarah's father, Thomas Bates, Sr., dated 20 June, 1820.

Before 1819 he married (2028) Nelly (unk) CARSON, probably in Madison County, Mississippi.  She was born about 1790 in South Carolina and died about August 1832 in Madison County, Mississippi. Their children were:
       +2007    John CARSON Jr.

2008      Betsy CARSON was born on 9 Feb., 1811
2009     Ann CARSON was born 12 April, 1813
       +2010   Thomas Pinckney CARSON
2011     Jane CARSON was born 23 July, 1821

2013      Joseph CARSON was born 5 May, 1830
    + 2014    Robert CARSON was born 1 June, 1832

He was in the 1830 census in Madison County, Mississippi, and was in San Augustine County, Texas, between 1834 and 1844.  There are Texas land abstracts to a John S. CARSON, dated 4 March, 1845, but it is not known if that is the same John Carson. The property was in Leon County, and there was some confusion concerning whether the man involved was this John Carson or John C. Carson of Brazos County, who didn't arrive in Leon County until the early 1850's. John appeared in the Texas state census of 1746 in Tyler, Texas.

On 12 Nov., 1836, a John S CARSON purchased Texas Scrip from Almazon Huston for 640 acres of land in the Robertson District, Leon County, Texas.  He was in Natchez, Mississippi at the time.  John sold the land to James Carson, Jr., of Natchez, Mississippi on Dec. 9, 1839.  This is the only reference to John's middle initials, "S", which never appear on any other document.  It is believed that James Carson is James Green Carson, but it is not known why he used "Jr.".

He married (2015) Lucy Elizabeth (Davis) CARSON on 19 July, 1857 in Limestone County, Texas. She was born on 19 Sept., 1840 in Christian County, Kentucky, (she would have been 54 years younger than John.)  Lucy's first husband died in the War Between the States.  They were probably married in Limestone County, Texas.  Sometime after 1866, Lucy along with her parents and her siblings moved to Comal County, Texas.  Their property was near the Kendall County line.  After John's death, Lucy married for a third time in 1886. She died on 5 Aug., 1927 in Kendall County, Texas.

John became a recluse and lived on a ranch on the Cibolo River, 24 miles northwest of San Antonio.  He married his fourth wife at about 90 years of age.   She was young, but her name is not known. A short time thereafter, some Germans eventually found his decomposed body away out west of San Antonio toward Comfort or Boerne, Texas.  They buried him on the spot.  It was stated that he had a "cramp colic". His "widow" then vanished.  Robert and another brother later found his horse and mule and learned of his fate.  He died either in 1874 or 1875.

There were no children from the third or fourth wives.

"BROTHERS PARTED AFTER CIVIL WAR UNITED AGAIN"

"J.P. Carson, 88, venerated citizen of Heidenheimer for half a century, met his brother Joe Carson, 76, at Austin Sunday for the first time in 66 years.

Only last week they learned that they had been living within 70 miles of each other without knowing it.

F.C. Carson of Temple, son of J.P. Carson, took his father to Austin Sunday for the reunion.  The two men recognized each other instantly and fell upon each other's shoulder, weeping so that neither could speak for some time.

When at last they straightened up, they began to talk excitedly about their brothers and sisters - som dea and some living.

Shortly after J.P. Carson returned to the family home in Blanco after the Civil War, the brothers parted and lost track of each other."
