The following is related by Charles C. Russell, who is a descendent of Willie
Anne (Curtis) CARSON:
"The Curtis family cemetery is located at Redland, Leon County, Texas, off
highway 7, about 1/2 mile north on a dirt road, on the right. It is about
300 yards through two gates to the old homesite of Thomas Roe Curtis. Of
course, nothing is left of the old house and sheds, but if you will use your
imagination, you can picture the house up on the hill with the trees, which are
still standing, which had surrounded the house. It is currently owned by
Mr. J. B. Burney, who lives in a brick home at Redland on highway 7, just across
from the dirt road that goes up to the land. Several years ago the land
(640 acres) was sold and subdivided and a bulldozer cleared a fence right-of-way
that almost completely destroyed what graves and stones that were there.
"An old woman living in Redland, whose husband was named Thomas Roe Curtis, but
who is now dead, had a piece of headstone from the old cemetery, which read
"Curtis". She gave it to Charles and he intends someday to
return to the old cemetery with a shovel and rebury it among what he thinks are
the graves".
